Coronavirus Vaccinations
Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines are safe and effective and have been proven to reduce hospitalisations and severe illness. They give you the best protection against COVID-19.
Seasonal COVID-19 vaccines
You can no longer book a spring COVID-19 vaccination.
You may be able to get a seasonal COVID-19 vaccine this autumn if you’re at increased risk from COVID-19 or depending on your age. Those who will be eligible include:
- adults aged 65 years and over
- residents in a care home for older adults
- frontline health and social care staff
- individuals aged 6 months to 64 years in a clinical risk group (as defined in tables 3 or 4 in the COVID-19 chapter of the Green Book)
How to get a seasonal COVID-19 vaccine
Eligible adults will be able to get the COVID vaccine from 3 October 2024. The NHS booking website will open from Monday 23 September 2024.
There may also be other ways you can access an appointment, for example:
- going to a walk-in vaccine site
- booking through a local pharmacy or GP surgery
- through your care home
Additional vaccines for people with a severely weakened immune system
If you have a health condition or treatment that severely weakens your immune system, you may need additional protection before the autumn. This includes anyone aged 6 months and over.
Your GP or specialist will assess whether you need an additional vaccine. They will make a referral and advise on when to get vaccinated around your planned treatment. They should help you find a local appointment. Speak to your GP or specialist for more information.
